During the autumn and winter we will introduce new courses and workshops at House of Helsinglight. Everything from creating masks in silicone, prosthetics, casting of face in plaster (Lifecasting), fantasy hat-making workshop, basic course in burlesque etc. We get recurring questions about our courses, where we’re located, accommodation opportunities, what language the courses are held in etc. So we hope that with this blog post we can help answer some of the questions. House of Helsinglight is located in beautiful Vattlång, in the municipality of Nordanstig in northern Hälsingland. We are about 20 minutes from Hudiksvall and 45 minutes from Sundsvall. The nearest train station is in Hudiksvall. Closest airport is Stockholm Arlanda Airport, about 2,5 hours by direct train to/from Hudiksvall.
If you need to fly to Sweden choose Stockholm Arlanda Airport as your first stop. From there you can take a direct train to Hudiksvall city, the train journey will take approximately 2,5 hours. If you travel by car, the address is Vattlång 114, 82991 Ilsbo. If you choose to go by train or bus, the nearest town is Hudiksvall. From Hudiksvall there are X-buses to Vattlång, where the nearest bus stop is 2 km from the House of Helsinglight. Please let us know if you need help with your travel plans and will help you with tips of flights/trains/buses to book and we’ll also pick you up at Hudiksvall city or nearest busstop to us in Vattlång. We’re experts at travel plans and logistics and it is really easy to find us, just give us a shout and we’ll help you out.
We’re offering on-site accommodation at House of Helsinglight for those attending workshops with us. The accommodation is in a common dormitory with bunkbeds for 10 people included for all our course participants. All you need to bring is your own bedding and towel. If you want other accommodation (private/smaller room) then there is the possibility to rent our Helsinglight AAiR artist apartment (can accommodate up 3 people and it is first come, first served), please contact us for price information on Helsinglight AAiR accommodation. There are also hotels in Nordanstig or Hudiksvall that we can direct you to, or AirBnB with rental of houses in Nordanstig.
We have microwave ovens and hobs for easier cooking as well as barbecue grills outdoors. The nearest grocery store, pizzeria, etc. is in Harmånger, about 10 minutes drive from us or 20 minutes to Hudiksvall. We’ve also got fridges with freezer on site. During the courses there is free access to coffee and tea. You can also buy snacks, sweets, soft drinks etc. on site from us.
All our workshops are held by professional teachers with great expertise and knowledge in the field to give you the best possible knowledge and experience. All the materials needed during the courses for the product you are going to create are included (extra props are not included) as well as the tools you need to use during the course. Accommodation for all participants is included in a common dormitory. You also get membership in the House of Helsinglight FX Community, which entitles you to a 20% discount on all courses you want to attend with us in the future.
It is also possible to order and buy materials and tools through us if you want to continue the work on your own at home. During our courses we also arrange common activities in the evening such as barbecues, movie nights, the opportunity to book horse riding or other outdoor activities that are available during different seasons. Some courses also include professional photography of the final work. You also get to bring home the product you created during the course.
All courses are held in Swedish as the main language and in many cases where it is needed we also hold it in English. If one of our teachers speaks English as the main first language, we will assist those who needs extra support in Swedish. The teaching during the workshops are adapted to the languages that the participants need and everyone will learn all the practical parts and theory.
All our workshops and classes are suited for complete beginners to more advanced and professionals in the field. The workshops are adapted to the individual need.
We use Eventbrite as our booking portal where we advertise our courses and you secure your place to the workshop by paying an advance / registration fee. This fee covers some of the material costs that we have in preparation for the workshop as most of the workshops require that we order special materials well in advance. Therefore, a registration fee is required to secure your place. The rest of the amount for the course fee is paid prior to the course starts, where we send out an invoice to you for that amount. You can also register your place to us by emailing petra@helsinglight.com if you would rather want an invoice from us both for the registration fee and the remaining amount.
When the registration fee has been paid, you will receive a confirmation that your spot is booked and reserved for you. Registration for the course is binding and only upon presentation of a medical certificate is the registration fee refunded for cancellation of participation in our courses. If for any other reasons you are unable to attend the course with us now we transfer the funds towards another workshop we will help you book with us in the future. If for any reason Helsinglight needs to cancel the workshop, you will receive the full registration fee back.
Most of our courses contain a lot of demanding practical elements and theory with long workshop days that require a lot of the participants. We therefore recommend an age limit of 18 years. We sometimes make exceptions where younger participants are given the opportunity to participate with the guardians permission and in dialogue with the young participant in question. Please contact us for more information about this if you are under 18 years old.
