We are looking for a handful of artists/culture workers in different artistic disciplines to be part of our test group in 2019 and try out Helsinglight AAiR - Alternative Artist in Residence.

HELSINGLIGHT AAiR - ALTERNATIVE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Located in Sweden, 3,5 h north of Stockholm in a small village called Vattlång, in Nordanstig municipality

Art residency with main focus on alternative, subcultural and marginalised art forms.

AAiR apartment/studio with access to Helsinglight Art Gallery, FX/Art workshop areas and Sauna.
*Being close to nature and spending time in nature boosts creativity and has got positive effects on our mental health and wellbeing. There will also be access to a finnish wood stove Sauna at our residency - as part of our “creative- wellness - AAiR concept”.
At Helsinglight we also offer workshops in FX Makeup and mask making. We arrange art exhibitions in our stunning art gallery and in the future we will also arrange various events and concerts at our venue etc. The plan is to have a lot of creative activity going on simultaneously in the house so that new artistic collaborations and synergies can be born and new friendships made.

WELCOMING FIRST RESIDENTS IN MAY 2019
At the moment we are renovating the residency apartment/studio at Helsinglight and we are looking to launch it open in April/May 2019 and invite the first residents/test persons to try our concept out then. Our AAiR apartment can accommodate up to 2 people, so there is also an opportunity to apply to our AAiR Program as a couple / friends.
The AAiR Apartment/Studio will be located on the second floor (see layout of apartment). In the apartment there will be a small kitchenette, creative studio/workshop area, “small pod room/writers corner”, bedroom, toilet, storage (shower is located in another bathroom on the same floor).
The artists to take part of our AAiR-Program will also get access to our workshop rooms on first floor as well as Helsinglight Art Gallery/event/concert/performance room where the artist can arrange their own exhibitions, performances, workshops etc in collaboration with Helsinglight. The use of the rooms will be discussed on a case to case basis and depending on artist needs. I will also be based on availability since there is also other creative activity/exhibitions and workshops held at the same time in the building. There will also be a Finnish wood stove Sauna that artists can use during their stay to relax after an intense creative day.
HOW TO APPLY TO BE PART OF OUR AAiR TEST GROUP
We will offer this opportunity to a handful of people to try our residency out in year 2109 (test period April - December) to help us create the best possible artistic resort we possible can. The residence will open up in end of April beginning of May, depending on the progress of renovations. The artists selected to be part of this test group will be selected from various artistic disciplines , i.e writers, musicians, dancers, performers, painters, sculptors, FX artists, tattoo artists, photographers, black smiths etc..
Artists selected to be part of the test group can “stay and play” up to 2 weeks *free of charge at Helsinglight AAiR. If you wish to stay longer we will discuss this on a case to case basis.
(*No charge/rent for the apartment/art studio or use of other premises at Helsinglight, however your travels, food and materials needed for your art projects will be at the artists own cost)
The artists to be part of this test group will be carefully selected based on their application and in return we expect you to help us with feedback and artistic input concerning the further build up of our AAiR-concept.
